There are thousands of online poker websites to choose from, offering varying degrees of content and quality. Although many established poker websites are of high quality ( and you'll find many links to these throughout this site) I thought it might be a good idea to have a page dedicated to new poker websites, offering an alternative way to search for poker related information. I can't recall seeing a page such as this on any other sites, so this might well be a first - or at the very least among the first.
With a lot of competition, new poker websites can often struggle to make an impact and get noticed - but we all know that it's good to try something different once in a while, and who's to say that a new site of today won't grow into one of the leading sites next year?
I think it's good to spell out what makes a new poker website here, because it isn't necessarily as obvious as it sounds. I'm classing a new poker site as one that's probably been launched sometime in the last 2-3 months (but could be longer than that), and almost certainly has a PR0 classification on Google. PR stands for 'page rank' and is a numerical grade scoring system that Google applies to denote the general quality, or search engine ranking of a site. Of course, new sites are going to always start out at PR0 ( or actually unranked), and will grow as they age, as they have good content added to them, and as other sites link in to them. You can read more about Page Rank on Google's page dedicated to it. There's a lot of debate about the true value of PR for poker SEO, but there's no denying it does give some indications of the current strength of a site. Also there are rumours that Google are soon to cease the use of PR, in which case we'll just continue working from the age and content quality perspective.
Here's a directory of new poker websites. Maybe we'll also revisit these sites at periodic intervals to see how they're progressing. With that in mind, I'll date any entries below.
New Poker Websites Directory
1. FirstTimePokerPlayer.com - The owner and creator of this site has provided a showcase article titled ' Five Online Poker Tips' which is published on it's own page here on PokerStrategyBonus.com. This article is a taster for a full and comprehensive listing of '101 Poker Tips For The Ambitious Beginner' which you'll find on the FirstTimePokerPlayer site.
Review of FirstTimePokerPlayer 16th Nov 2009
The webmaster describes FirstTimePokerPlayer as a site which aims to ''guide you through the world of online poker, learn what to look for in an online poker room, and provide extensive articles covering poker rules, hand rankings and poker strategy.''
This is probably the first time I've needed to review a poker site that isn't a poker room, so I hope I do this well.
Certainly to me the content on this site reads well, is accurate and well written. I felt 'entertained' during my reading. In particular I was impressed with the collection of 101 poker tips, and the 'Crash Course For The First Time Poker Player' section - easy to read, easy to follow, and definitely valuable for players new to the game. Plus a sense of humour in the play on the word c(r)ash. That got a smile.
From an aesthetics perpective, the site design looks crisp and clear to me when using Firefox, but when using my IE6 browser then some text appears slightly misaligned. I guess this could be caused by my local PC....and the webmaster is checking that at their end. It's not a major issue. The content is the most important aspect, and I believe the webmaster is well on the way to realising their plans for the site.
2. MyPokerBonus.com - 17th Nov 2009 - Billed by the webmaster as a site covering 'Poker Bonuses, Poker Bonus Codes and Professional Poker Strategy Tips and Articles'. MyPokerBonus.com first went online around 6 weeks ago, and offers a valuable set of in depth poker room reviews to compliment it's focus on poker bonuses. Also provides a sign up option promising to deliver a set of up to date no deposit poker bonus offers direct to your mailbox.
3. SitAndGoTips.com - 17th Nov 2009 - Sharp looking site offering tips on how to beat the Sit And Go poker tournaments. Revealing a series of tips published on the site at regular intervals, and currently up to tip number 15. Register for the newsletter to receive periodical SNG Tips by mail.
4. PLOTips.com - 17th Nov 2009 - Pot Limit Omaha tips from the webmaster of SitAndGoTips.com above. Recreates the format on this Omaha dedicated site with a collection of Pot Limit Omaha Tips currently standing at number 7 in the series.
5. PlayCardGames.org - 18th Nov 2009 - On first appearance a very straightforward, basic site covering different types of card games - how to play, game histories, and tips for successful playing strategies - but you can see straight away that this is going to be a valuable, easy to use site. Also contains a small directory of useful information sites, the one that caught my eye is a site that's currently in planning stage and promising to cover official poker rules. Watch out for this one, I have a feeling it might turn out to be one of those authoritative websites that everyone knows.
6. Mosesbet.com - 18th Nov 2009 - It's clear from the first step into this site that it's targetted at student poker, though you get the impression the site needs some work to develop a real identity. The webmaster - Adam - is aware of that, and is highly committed to building that identity once it's clear to him where he wants to go. I think there's great potential here, and it may be possible to grow it's community type focus, perhaps with the use of some offline marketing activity to drive visitors to the site. Either way, with good content I believe this website's neat design can appeal to a wider visitor base.
Currently Adam is working on building that good content base, with a useful initial focus on the various aspects of bluffing through a series of articles titled 'How To Bluff In Poker'.
7. OnlinePokerSiteReviews.org - 18th Nov 2009 - Well presented website offering thorough online poker site reviews, with the unique addition of using video to enhance each individual poker room review.
If you're a webmaster who's just starting out with a new poker site, or you know of a site that's new and has potential, I'd welcome the chance to add that site here. You can find my contact details on the 'about' page of PokerStrategyBonus.com.
